Being a good student means being able to follow instructions, show up for classes, take notes, and ask questions when needed. You also need to be able to manage your time effectively.

Here are seven easy steps to becoming a good student.

STEP 1: Know Your Goal

The first thing you should do is figure out what you’re going to do with your life. Make sure you know what you want before you even begin looking for a job. This is the most important step because it will help you decide which path is right for you.

STEP 2: Get Your Assigned Books

This is probably the most important step, but it can also be the most frustrating. Find out in advance what books you need to buy for your classes. Many professors provide this information on their class websites, and some professors send the books directly to students’ mailboxes.

STEP 3: Read the Books and Take Notes

Now that you have your books, it’s time to read them. Make sure you read the entire book. If you have questions, you can ask them in class. If you don’t understand something, make a note of it in your textbook or online notes section. If you still have questions, go back to the book and re-read the section.

STEP 4: Review the Notes and Questions

When you’re done reading the books, take some time to review your notes. Don’t just skim over them. Make sure you’ve read the whole thing carefully. If you find that you didn’t understand something, you need to make a note of it so you can refer back to it when you get a chance.

STEP 5: Go Back to Your Textbook and Read It Again

Once you’ve reviewed your notes and questions, you need to go back to your textbook and re-read the sections. You might want to start with the first chapter and read through the whole book again. This time, you’ll be able to pick up more information as you read through the book.

STEP 6: Practice the Concepts

You should be doing all this while you’re taking the course. For each assignment, you’ll have a few days to practice the concepts before you turn it in. If you have any questions, make sure you ask them in class or on your online discussion board.

STEP 7: Take More Classes

This is the final step. The more classes you take, the better prepared you’ll be for your future career. Don’t just take one class – take several!
