The number one reason most writers fail is because they don’t know what they’re doing wrong. If you want to write better, you need to understand what the language experts are doing right.
I’m going to show you exactly how to do it. I’ve taken over 50 years of experience in English grammar and writing and boiled it down into seven simple steps.
You’ll learn all of these tricks, as well as the most important grammar rules, so you can write the way English experts write.
STEP 1: Master your Style
There’s a reason why English experts have mastered the English language. They spent years learning what makes a great sentence, a great paragraph, and a great story.
They know what makes a good character and what makes a good plot. They know what makes a great introduction and what makes an effective conclusion.
The best thing about this approach is that it works whether you’re writing fiction or nonfiction.
The other great thing is that it doesn’t matter what your skill level is. If you’re writing a book, then you’re already a master. If you’re writing blog posts, then you’re already a master.
STEP 2: Write a Lot
When you write, you’re doing a lot of things at once. You’re thinking, you’re observing, you’re creating. The more you write, the better you get.
Every time you write, you’re learning something new. The more you write, the more you understand the language and the better you’ll be able to express yourself.
STEP 3: Learn From Your Mistakes
It’s easy to blame your mistakes on bad teachers. When you’re starting out, you’ll likely make a lot of mistakes. There’s nothing wrong with that.
What is wrong is not correcting your mistakes. As soon as you realize you’ve made a mistake, correct it.
This is one of the hardest parts of learning English grammar because most people don’t know they’re making mistakes until it’s too late.
You must learn from your mistakes before you can be successful.
STEP 4: Watch Your Language
When you watch other people write, you see them use a lot of unnecessary words. They say things like “really” and “kind of” when they could just use a simple word or phrase.
If you want to write better, you need to follow the lead of the English masters.
The more you watch the experts, the more you’ll understand what makes a great sentence.
STEP 5: Read More and Write More
Reading and writing are the two main ways we learn. If you want to become a better writer, you need to spend more time reading and writing.
If you’re learning from someone else’s writing, you need to look at how they express themselves.
If you’re writing your own blog posts, you need to write about topics you care about and that you enjoy.
STEP 6: Get Good Help
Some people are naturally gifted writers. They can just write in their sleep.
Others are not. They have to put in a lot of effort to be able to write well.
The key is knowing the difference. If you want to be a good writer, you need to be willing to put in the effort.
STEP 7: Write For Others
The best way to learn how to write is to write for others. You can learn by reading other people’s writing, but you can also learn by writing for others.
When you write for others, you’re putting yourself in a position where you have to think about what you’re writing.
You’re forced to use your skills to make your writing more effective.
If you want to write better, you need to write for others.
