STEP 1: Find What’s Making You Stressed

The first step is finding the source of your stress. Start by thinking about what’s stressing you right now. The more specific you can be, the better. Maybe you’re stressed because you haven’t done your taxes yet, or you’ve been looking for a new job, or you have a big presentation to give tomorrow.

Don’t worry about getting everything perfect. That’s not possible. Instead, think about what’s really stressing you right now. Once you know what’s stressing you, you can start to plan to fix it.

STEP 2: Make a Plan to Fix It

Now that you know what’s stressing you, it’s time to make a plan to fix it. If you’re really overwhelmed, you may need to make several plans. Here are some things you can do to deal with stress:

Find a stress relief activity. A good way to release some of the stress in your life is to find an activity that makes you happy. For example, if you have a lot of work to do at home, take a walk in the park, watch a movie, or go for a bike ride.

Find someone who’s been through what you’re going through and ask them for advice. You can find people online or in real life who can help you sort out your problems.

Go for a walk. Taking a walk can help you feel more relaxed and energized. You don’t need to do anything special, just head outside and start walking.

Talk to a therapist. If you feel like talking about your stress can help, there are therapists who specialize in this type of counseling. If you’re worried about how much you’ll pay, don’t worry. Many therapists will offer free or low-cost sessions to help you get started.
