Stress is inevitable. We all feel stressed from time to time, but if you’re constantly feeling overwhelmed by everything in your life, then you’re doing something wrong. Here’s what to do about it.

STEP 1: Recognize and Name Your Stressors

You can’t control other people, so why should you try? Instead, focus on the things that you can control and change.

STEP 2: Make a List of What’s Making You Stressed

Write down all of the stressors in your life. Is it your job? Your health? Your finances? Your relationships? Take a look at your list of stressors and think about which ones are the most important to you.

STEP 3: Find an Alternative to Your Stressor

For each stressor, find an alternative that will help you feel better. Perhaps you need to spend less time at work or take a vacation instead. Maybe you need to make some changes in your relationship or cut back on spending. If you really need to take a break, then find a way to enjoy yourself and give yourself some time off.

STEP 4: Eliminate Unnecessary Stressors

After you’ve found your alternative, go ahead and do it. It’s much easier to do when you don’t have to worry about all the other things you can’t control.

STEP 5: Let Go of Everything Else

Once you’re done with your alternative, let go of all the other stressors. Don’t worry about all the things you can’t control. Instead, focus on what you can do.

STEP 6: Set a Goal

Set a goal for your life. Is there something you want to accomplish? Do you want to lose weight? Get a new job? Spend less money? Whatever it is, set a goal.

STEP 7: Take Action

Take action on your goal. What will you need to do in order to make this happen? Will you need to save more money? Start exercising? Make healthier food choices? Whatever it is, take action.

STEP 8: Reward Yourself

Finally, reward yourself when you reach your goal. This is the most important part of the entire process. When you reach your goal, don’t feel guilty for taking time off. Instead, reward yourself with something you enjoy.
